Recall

About the exhibition

“Recall” is a multimedia exhibition dedicated to WWII. All eleven halls of the exhibition in the historical park “Russia is my History” are tied to a single plot and tell how one event can rapidly change the life of every person.

Concept

The exhibition is based on the principle of a feature film. Visitors start the tour from the hall, which is dedicated to the last peaceful day: residents of the Soviet Union are having their routines, getting ready for a regular workweek, schoolchildren are celebrating their graduation. The next day all those people’s lives will not be the same. Next, the viewer finds himself in the corridors of the Kremlin.

Picking up the phone, he learns that the command of the USSR urgently needs to arrive at an emergency meeting with the leader. Now the viewer will find himself in the epicenter of a terrible war and look at it from a completely different angle.

The narration in each hall is conducted in the first person, as if the hero shares with the visitor the most intimate experiences. Each character is a collective image that combines the stories of real people and conveys the general mood of the events taking place.

Artistic
and technical
solutions

The visitor is accompanied by a red line that literally permeates the entire narrative of the war.

Moving through the exhibition, the red line then turns into a sound wave – sirens the besieged Leningrad, then flies along with the shells of an artillery battery in the hall of a front-line soldier or visually represents the alphabet Morse code in the partisan hall.

In order to immerse the viewer even deeper into the atmosphere, a unique audiophone was created for each hall. In some halls it is the music that inflates the events, in some it is the sound design: the iron clang of factories, the sounds of gunfire and bombing, the cries of Nazi concentration camps and much more.

It was important for us to add movement and volume to the static materials of the photo chronicle. To achieve this goal, we used parallax effects to bring each photo to life. The quality of most materials has been improved with the help of neural networks.

Specific features
of the content

The exhibition is divided into two levels of information perception — emotional and factual. With the help of projections, sound and lighting effects in each hall, you can feel the general mood of a particular period of the war.

For those visitors who are interested to learn more details, to find a selection of facts, through the articles and stories about the events of the Great Patriotic War we are presenting a set of the touchscreens, walls and projection tables.

10 projection tables
8 lightboxes
160 multimedia screens
20 touchscreens
